Soraya has been involved in the world of sports since she was six years old. She started as an athlete and competed in Artistic Gymnastics until the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. Soraya graduated in Physical Education, becoming a coach in various locations, including the National Training Center of the National Gymnastics Federation. Later, she specialised in sports management and changed to this field. Since then, for 17 years, Soraya has been leading the education and safety department of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, which organises and develops training programs for sports managers, coaches, and athletes. Additionally, they have the Safe Sport Programme, which aims to maintain a sports environment free from ethical misconduct by discussing and implementing prevention and response actions against violence, harassment, abuse, racism, prevention of competition manipulation, doping, among others.
