Professor Kramer, Adjunct Professor in Emergency Medicine, is the retired head of the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and Extraordinary Professor in Sport Medicine at Pretoria University, Pretoria. He has been involved in the sphere of prehospital and hospital emergency medicine for over 35 years, with a special interest and participation in Mass Casualty / Disaster Medicine and Urban Search + Rescue Medicine, having attended various earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, and volcanic eruptions as on-site emergency physician director for Rescue South Africa. He has also been actively involved in Athletic and Para-Athletic Sport Mass Gathering Emergency Medical Services, as educator, instructor, and onsite sports emergency physician, having visited 77 countries during his tenure. He has attended 7 FIFA World Cups, including his appointment as Chief Tournament Medical Officer for the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018, CAF Medical Officer for the African Cup of Nations, Egypt 2019 and recently Race Medical Director of the 94.7km Ride Jo’Burg Cycle Race 2021.
