Dr Minhyeok Tak is a Lecturer in Sport Management at Loughborough University. Minhyeok completed his PhD at the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2018 after obtaining his BSc (Physical Education), BA (Sociology) and MSc (Sociology of Sport) at Seoul National University, South Korea. Minhyeok’s research interest is in the socio-political analysis of integrity issues in sport, including athlete safeguarding, sports gambling and match-fixing. His work has been recently focusing on how Safe Sport policies and practices challenge certain sociocultural norms and make institutional impacts in local contexts. His most recent research project, funded by the IOC’s Advanced Research Grant, examined institutional and cultural hindrances to cultivating safer sporting environments and unintended, perverse effects of safeguarding policies in South Korea.
