Dr Hagstrom obtained a PhD from the University of Western Sydney in 2015. Mandy is currently a research and teaching academic at UNSW Sydney. Mandy’s research interests broadly relate to the field of resistance training. Mandy has particular interests in strength sports, and in female adaptations to resistance training across the lifespan. Mandy has previously worked in industry, primarily with strength and physique athletes. Mandy herself was a previous dual-international athlete. Mandy self-coached and wrote her own evidence-based training programs to qualify for and medal at the Oceania, Asian, and Commonwealth Powerlifting championships. Mandy has a strong educational background having taught at 5 institutions, receiving 9 formal awards for teaching and learning over her career to date. Mandy also previously led the development and design of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, and been involved in writing national level exercise science accreditation standards. Mandy was recently named the 2023 Australian accredited exercise scientist of the year by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
