Ben Stephenson is a Physiologist and Performance Planning Lead at the UK Sports Institute, working with British Triathlon’s Paralympic Performance Programme. Ben is also a Visiting Fellow at the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport (School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences), Loughborough University. Ben completed his PhD at Loughborough University in 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Vicky Goosey-Tolfrey. Ben has been working with elite Paralympic athletes since undertaking his PhD in 2015. His research and applied work has been centered on para triathletes’ physiological responses to acute and chronic changes in training ‘load’ as well as preparing athletes for competition in the heat. Related to this latter point, Ben worked on the production of World Triathlon’s ‘Beat the Heat’ document and the development of heat counter-measures for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Since 2018, Ben has worked with British Triathlon’s Paralympic Programme and he also worked on a multi-sport, multi-discipline project to prepare athletes for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
