‘Tony’ Hackney is a full professor at the University of North Carolina in the Department of Exercise & Sport Science, and Department of Nutrition – School of Public Health. His research focuses on the influence of stress exposure on the endocrine system of women and men. Specifically, much of his work has focused on physical exercise and reproductive hormonal dysfunction associated with exercise training. He has over 300 published research papers listed in PubMed, 40 book chapters, and seven books he has written or edited on exercise physiology and endocrinology (Google Scholar h-index=62, i10-index=248, citations=14581). His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, the United Nations, and the European Council. He holds Fellow status in the National Academy of Kinesiology and has been a multiple recipient of Fulbright Scholar awards having served in Europe (Lithuania, Poland, Finland).
