Annamarie Phelps is Co-Chair of the Global Executive of the International Working Group on Women and Sport [IWG], President of European Rowing and Vice Chair of the British Olympic Association. As a member of European Olympic Committees Executive Committee, she chairs the EOC Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commission and was elected President of European Rowing in 2021. A former world champion in rowing, Annamarie represented Great Britain at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, serving as athlete representative at British Rowing and the British Olympic Association. As Vice-Chair of the national federation (2002-2013), she oversaw safeguarding, anti-doping, governance and equality policies across the sport and later served as Chair (2013-2018). She has championed safeguarding for adults in sport as Vice Chair of the British Paralympic Association and Chair of the British Horseracing Authority, the governing and regulatory body for horseracing (2019-2021). In 2016 she chaired the first Independent Review into the culture and climate of British Cycling’s high-performance programme and has worked with Safe Sport International supporting a number of international federations to implement safeguarding practices. Annamarie currently serves on the IPC Legal and Ethics Committee, the IOC and ANOC Olympic GEDI Commissions, World Rowing’s Governance and Safeguarding Working Groups and Racing Welfare’s Governance Committee.
