Dr Melinda Manore is a Professor Emeritus of Nutrition in the School of Biological and Population Sciences, which includes the nutrition and exercise disciplines. She served as Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Management at Oregon State University (OSU) prior to its merger. Before coming to OSU she was a professor of nutrition at Arizona State University and on the graduate faculty of the Exercise Science and Exercise and Wellness doctoral programs. Her research expertise is in the nutrient and energy balance needs of active people, especially active women across the lifestyle. Dr Manore has a MS degree in health education and community health from the University of Oregon and a doctorate in human nutrition and a minor in exercise physiology from OSU. Dr Manore is a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and a Certified Specialist in Sport Dietetics (CSSD) and is a member of the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists (SCAN) and Nutrition Research dietetic practice groups (DPG) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). She is has served in a number of leadership roles with AND, including serving as Chair of the Research Committee and the Research DPG. Dr Manore is a member of the American Society of Nutrition (ASN), The Obesity Society, and a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), where she has served as VP and active in a number of ACSM committees. Dr Manore has served or is serving on the editorial boards for ACSM’s Health and Fitness Journal, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, Journal of Physical Activity and Health, and the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She has also authored four books: Sport Nutrition for Health and Performance (2nd Ed) (2009, 3rd Ed. in press for 2020), Nutrition: An Applied Approach (5th Ed) (2018), Nutrition for Life (4th Ed) (2015) and The Science of Nutrition (5th Ed, 2020) published by Pearson Publishers. She has also authored two books as part of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Committee on Military Nutrition Research (2004, 2006). Finally Dr, Manore as an author on ACSM Female Athlete Triad Position Paper (2007) and ACSM Position Paper on Appropriate intervention strategies for physical activity, weight loss and prevention of weight regain for adults (2009). She was also an author on the first (2000) Position Paper on Nutrition and Athletic Performance published by the ACSM, ADA and Dietitians of Canada.
