Johann’s professional objective at the Vancouver Whitecaps FC is to make everyone else’s job more effective and efficient by overseeing data collection, integration, and reporting across football operations – including decisions in Scouting & Recruitment, Sport Science & Medicine, Player Development, and First Team Football. A key component of this role is collecting, modeling and communicating workload data, a task largely informed by his doctoral work, co-supervised by Profs. Karim Khan and Tim Gabbett – ‘Longitudinal workload monitoring to keep athletes healthy and performing: conceptual, methodological and applied considerations in sports injury aetiology’. Prior to joining the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Johann worked at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee as a Sports Medicine Data Analyst where he helped to build their Athlete 360 monitoring program. This program was responsible for athlete workload and self-reported wellness monitoring of more than 400 athletes representing more than a dozen different sporting disciplines.
