Mike is a sports medicine physician and Assistant Clinical professor in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of British Colombia (UBC) practicing in Vancouver, Canada. He qualified at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and has over 35 years experience providing medical care and coverage for athletes and sports events. Mike served as the Director, Medical Services at VANOC 2010, responsible for all host medical services for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic games. Presently he is the CMO for the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Rowing, a member of the BC Sports Cardiology center and a member of the international Rowing (FISA) Sports medicine / anti doping commissions. He has served on the International Swimming (FINA) and Bobsleigh (FIBT) federations anti doping control and TUE review boards. Mike has worked as the team physician at multiple games including for the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Rowing teams for 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics, served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Canadian Olympic Committee at the Pan-American Games in 2007 and 2019, Tokyo 2020 and as Chief Dr for the COC at the 2018 Winter Olympics. In addition he has worked long term as a team physician for Vancouver Canucks (1999 – 2016) and Canadian Rugby (1997 – present).
