Dr Miller practices Family Practice and Sports Medicine in Midlothian, Virginia in a private practice, Family Practice Specialists of Richmond, P.C., which he founded in 1994. He holds the position of Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Virginia remaining active in teaching medical students. He has travelled extensively as a National Team Physician for USA Swimming starting in 1998. He is a member of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) Sports Medicine Committee, now in his 3rd four-year appointment. Within the FINA SMC he serves as the Editor of Sports Medicine for the FINA Aquatics World Magazine. He is chairing the Cardiology sub-committee and leading the Illness and Injury study for World Championships for FINA. He lectures internationally on topics of Sports Medicine, publishes in internationally circulated magazines and textbooks. He travels extensively working as the FINA Medical officer and Doping Control Delegate for international FINA aquatic sports events. Dr Miller has been active in Masters swimming for many years. He is a past President of U.S. Masters Swimming, where had has held many additional roles, including chairing the organization’s Sports Medicine Committee. He also served on the Masters Technical Committee for Union Americana de Naticion (UANA), the Continental Organization for aquatic sports, and is currently on the UANA Sports Medicine Committee. His involvement with Masters swimming spans all aspects of the discipline, as a coach, leader, and athlete. Known as “Dr Jim” by many Masters swimmers in the U.S., he is a trusted source of information and guidance on medical and physical aspects of the sport.
