Dr Jamie Kissick was a primary care sport medicine physician from Ottawa, Canada. He held the Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine, and is a former president of this organization. He was the Chair of the International Paralympic Committee Medical Committee, and a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency Therapeutic Use Exemption Expert Group. Dr Kissick was a team physician for the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League and was previously head team physician of the National Hockey League Ottawa Senators from 1992-2002, and the Canadian National Men’s Para Ice Hockey Team from 2007-14. He had also been a team physician for the Ottawa Renegades (CFL), and Ottawa Lynx (Triple A Baseball). Dr Kissick had been part of the health care team at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Pan American Games, World University Games, and Canada Games. He was the Site Medical Officer for Ottawa for the FIFA U20 World Cup. With a special clinical interest in concussion, Dr Kissick had been an expert panelist at the Concussion in Sport Consensus Conferences in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
We are saddened to record that Dr Jamie Kissick died in January 2023, after a battle with cancer. He made enormous contributions to Paralympic sport, to Canadian Sport and to WADA and will be much missed by friends and colleagues around the world.
