Dr. Lara Carlson is currently the Founder and President of the Carlson Laboratory. Carlson is also an adjunct professor at Southern Maine Community College, and has a faculty appointment with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Previously, she was an Associate Professor at the University of New England and at Castleton University. Outside the classroom, Carlson was an U.S. ranked hammer thrower competing in four USA Track and Field National Championships. Carlson also competed in Scottish Highland Games. At Castleton, Carlson was the Men’s Ice Hockey Strength and Conditioning Coach. Carlson is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, a 2011 recipient of the New England American College of Sports Medicine (NEACSM) Honor Award, and was elected as President of the NEACSM for an unprecedented second term in their history. Carlson is a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. As a sports scientist, she pioneered the physiological challenges observed in competitive stock car racing –leading to serving on the Medical Advisory Board for the Motorsports Safety Group, and a member of Elite Sports Performance for the W Series. Her work has been featured in numerous media outlets including a documentary nominated for an Emmy.
