Dr Jenny Shute has been a passionate advocate for safe sport for over 20 years. This was a natural development of her professional work as a General Practitioner in the UK.
A brief timeline:
From 2004: LWO for her NGB (SnowsportGB) – Developed safeguarding policies, coordinated, and managed employment checks and undertook case management working with police and social services. Dr Shute also provided safeguarding education within her NGB, and subsequently to her IF, the International Ski Federation (FIS).
2016: delivered a proposal to the FIS Congress to adopt safeguarding as a key governance strategy.
2017-present: Appointed FIS LWO and led a small WG to develop FIS General and Event PHAS policies. She collaborated with other UK NGBs to share ideas in the development of policies and procedures, maximizing their joint resources; Dr Shute continues to promote safeguarding to all member nations through committee meetings and seminars.
2017: provided feedback to the IOC in the development of the IOC PHAS Toolkit
2018: speaker at inaugural Safe Sport International Congress
2018-2019: Co-authored (with Dr Margo Mountjoy) a new chapter devoted to Safeguarding/PHAS in the textbook ‘Clinical Sports Medicine’
2019-present: Current member of the Advisory Board of Safe Sport International
