Melanie Lang (MA, PhD) is Professor of Safeguarding and Children’s Rights in Sport at Edge Hill University near Liverpool in the UK. She is director of the research Centre for Child Protection and Safeguarding in Sport (CPSS) and editor of several books on child protection, athlete welfare, and children’s rights in sport. Her work specialises on understanding how sports cultures contribute to and can mitigate abuse of (child and adult) athletes, approaches to violence and abuse prevention in sport, and children’s participation or ‘voice’ in sport. Melanie is a member of the Council of Europe’s Pool of International Experts in Safe Sport, and the Research Chair in Security and Integrity in Sport at Laval University, Quebec, Canada. Melanie conducts research, consultancy, and training for sport, safeguarding, and athlete advocacy organisations globally. She is a former elite youth athlete and swimming coach.
